Web design is relatively new profession compared to other forms of design, due to the youth of our medium. The word design means a lot of different things to different people. But nearly everyone you meet says that it is obvious what design is. They are often surprised to find that other people mean something different by design then they do. Web design is the process of designing websites. It is a collection of online content including documents and applicants that reside on a web server. Web design is a flick industry. Just like every other form of artistic expression, web design has undergone a continuous and surprisingly fast evolution. Once a playground for enthusiasts, it has now become a mature rich medium with strong aesthetic and functional appeal.
As with any design discipline, there are aspects of the web design process that are unique to the medium, such as screen resolution, additive color spaces and image compression.
Design basics are very important for a learner to design a web. These design basics are as follows:
- Color: color has the huge impact on the mood of the design. A predominantly red color usually represents strong emotions, such as; love, anger passion, and while, blue can make the design feel calm, cool, and peaceful. Color contributes to the unity of a series of flyers, emphasizes important and leads the eye through a design. Some websites use color like the site about HCG drops, they use color to emphasize health and wellness.
- Line: the quality of the line (hand drawn to precise) can say a lot about the mood you are setting design. Hand drawn or thick lines tend towards juvenile themes, where as straight and thins lines are more refined, corporate or intelligent. How lines interact with each other is important, too. If they are straight, thin lines, but are colliding at all sorts of crazy angles, that is going to be chaotic. If they have a hand drawn quality to them but are more or less straightly and orderly, this can give a much needed personal appeal to a design.
- Shape: shapes are a vital thing in the design basics. Angular shapes like square and triangles tend to indicate masculinity, while smooth and curving shapes like circles are more feminine. Squares are very familiar to us, so they are secure, trustworthy and stable. Circles are very pleasing to the eye and are organic, whole, and peaceful and exude unity.
- Scale and size: bring balance, proportion and contrast to your designs with scale and size. Just for reference, size is actual dimensions of an element on the page, scale is the element’s relation to its original and proportion is the relation of all the elements on the page in terms of size and scale. Use scale and proportion to indicate the actual size of an object or to emphasize the difference in the sizes of two objects.
- Space: space is often referred to as white space and gives the design some breathing room and the eye a place to rest. An ill use of space can make the design feel crowded and claustrophobic.

Web design is a flick industry. Just like every other form of artistic expression, web design has undergone a continuous and surprisingly fast evolution. Once a playground for enthusiasts, it has now become a mature rich medium with strong aesthetic and functional appeal. In fact, we are experiencing what could be the golden era of web design, or at least the best period thus far. We have powerful new tools at are disposal, an excess of freely available resources, a strong design community and also reliable support of web standards in the major browsers.
There are several mistakes that web designers do while web designing. If the designers do not commit these mistakes, then the web designs look great. Some of them are as follows:
- Bad search – overly literal search engines reduce usability in that they are unable to handle typos, plurals, hyphens, and other variants of the query terms. Such search engines are particularly difficult for elder users, but they hurt everybody.
- PDF files for online reading – users hate coming across a PDF file while browsing, because it breaks their flow. Even simple things like printing or saving documents are difficult because standard browsers commands do not work. Layouts are often optimized for a sheet of paper, which rarely matches the size of the user’s browser window. Worst of all, PDF is an undifferentiated blob of content that is hard to navigate. PSD is great for printing and for distributing manuals and other big documents that need to be printed.
- Not changing the color of visited links – a good grasp of past navigation helps you understand your current location, since it is the culmination of your journey. Knowing your past and present locations in turn makes it easier to decide where to go next. Links are a key factor in this navigation process. Users can exclude links that prove fruitless in their earlier visits.
- Non scan able text – a wall of text is deadly for an interactive experience. It is intimidating, boring and painful to read.
- Fixed font size – CSS styles sheets unfortunately give websites the power to disable a web browser’s “change font size” button and specify a fixed font size
- Page titles with low search engine visibility – search is the most important way users discover websites. Search is also one of the most important ways users find their around individual websites. The humble page title is your main tool to attract new visitors from search listings and to help your existing users to locate the specific pages that they need.
- Anything that looks like an advertisement – selective attention is very powerful, and web users have learned to stop paying attention to any ads that get in the way of their goal driven navigation. Unfortunately users also ignore legitimate design elements that look like prevalent forms of advertising.
By correcting these blunders one can make an attractive and creative web design that can get attention o f the web surfers.

Few web design ideas that can make a very cool web design are as follows:
- Start with a blank canvas: starting with another design or any portion of work that have done before is a great way to save time on a project. In reality, a lot of unused design work can be reworked and recycled into new projects, increasing your productivity. This is a practice that saves a huge amount of time and pulls what might have been a great idea that did not click on a previous project out of the trash bin. But this is not a great way to come up with that cool new design that is going to set the world on fire. Start with a blank canvas. Co not even set the background color to white; you may not know if that is the color you want to go with yet.
- Think outside the box; do not use a pre-described layout: grid systems such as the 960 grid system are wonderful for displaying web content, not only because they are easy to set up and because they increase your efficiency in deploying and maintaining website projects, but also because they improve the usability and consistency of your web page layout. With some projects, there is something to be said for consistency and cross browser support, especially if you are dealing with a broad, mainstream target audience.
- Do not use a CMS: much like set layouts and grid systems, content management systems of today are amazing tools that save time and effort while maintaining beautiful design standards and pretty good flexibility. Platforms like word press, Expression Engine, and Drupal and very malleable and are used in innovative ways, but they still do provide designers with restrictions. Especially when combined with grid systems, which many publicly free themes do in order to speed up development, content management systems can be dangerous to your creativity.
- Avoid online inspiration: for projects we want to be truly unique and innovative, we should probably avoid looking at what other designers have done before us. This means we must not start our innovative web design project by looking at design galleries and design showcases.

Creativity is defined as the tendency to generate or recognize ideas, alternatives, or possibilities that may be useful in solving problems, communicating with others, and entertaining others and ourselves. There are three reasons for why people are motivated to be creative; people need for novel, varied and complex stimulation, they need to communicate ideas and values, they need to solve problems.
In order to be creative, you need to be able to view things in new ways or from a different perspective. Among other things, you need to be able to generate new possibilities or new alternatives. Test of creativity measures not only the number of alternatives that people can generate, but also the uniqueness of those alternatives, the ability to generate alternatives or to see things uniquely does not occur by change, it is linked to other, more fundamental qualities of thinking, such as flexibility, tolerance of haziness or unpredictability, and the enjoyment of the things heretofore unknown.
There are many ways for how to be creative. Some are as follows:
- Get relaxed – Take a moment to do something that makes you happy; that brings you joy; that you love; that centers you. Meditate, take a walk, go for a swim, read something that puts you in a good mood, write a diary – writing down your thoughts.
- Give Gratitude – thinking about all the things you are grateful for produces a positive energy flow and vibration. As you feel the love in your heart for the wonderful blessings and gifts in your life, you will instantly relax and feel all warm and fuzzy inside. In that moment of warmth love, you are open to creative energy.
- Tickle you imagination – Imagination is highly visual, try closing your eyes and imagine, that you are in a scene, any scene. Pick your ideal scene, practice seeing the details of your environment in this scene. See the colors, the texture and try to touch something. This makes you more relaxed and gives you gratitude.
- Be in the moment – every outstanding musician or artist will tell you that when they are creating great music or art, there are no thoughts; they are completely in the moment and experiencing flow. Athletes call it “being in the zone”. You can practice present moment awareness by giving full attention to whatever you are doing; eating, washing dishes, making your bed etc. Meditation helps tremendously.
- Be inspired – practice seeing beautiful things that moves you emotionally. Flip through a book containing thought provoking images, go to art gallery, read something inspirational, and talk to someone who clams you.
- Draws – this may sounds funny but one of the effective ways to practice getting in touch with your creative side is to start drawing.
- See alternatives – Be curious. Practice asking yourself how to do something differently. When seeing a solution to the problem ask yourself, “What are the alternative ways to doing this?” develop the mental attitude that “there is always another way”. This way, you encourage more creative ideas to surface from your being.

Creative web design is the creation of web pages and sites using HTML, CSS, Java script, and other web languages. Web design is just like a design in general. It is the combination of lines, shapes, texture, and color to create an aesthetically pleasing or striking look. Web design is the work of creating web designs for web pages.
The word design means a lot of different things to different people. But nearly everyone you meet says that it is obvious what design is. They are often surprised to find that other people mean something different by design then they do.
The goal of most web designers is to create an attractive, easily accessible and functional website that will convince the visitor to do something. Creating such a creative web design requires good graphic design, easy and intuitive site navigation, logical site layout and good web copy. There are few guidelines for a creative web design. These guidelines are as follows:
- Web content – you want a visitor to see you as a knowledgeable information source or a reputable business. Poor grammar and spelling mistakes will immediately reduce your credibility. Remember that people use the internet to find information. Whether you are selling your own product or recommending someone else’s products, you must first provide valuable information to the visitor or they will click away and find a website that gives them what they want
- Cross browser compatibility – there are at least a hundred different browsers in use. You must design your website to work properly in the most widely used web browser. To do that you may not be able to use all of the really great special effects those are available because that may not be supported in most browsers. Even though most web browsers are free, people do not necessary to upgrade to the latest version. The average surfer may not know how to upgrade their browsers or have the attitude. Creative web design requires your web pages to work in Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, Firefox, Opera and Safari at a minimum.
- Graphics and photos – web surfers are impatient and studies show that most people will click away if a webpage takes longer than 10 seconds to load. Always optimize your photos and other graphic files to have as small a size as possible without sacrificing picture quality. Always use the height and width attributes on the picture so the rest of the page can load while the graphics file is downloading.
- Background colors – if you use anything other than white behind text, be sure to specify link colors otherwise the user’s browser default will determine what color the links are which can make them unreadable.
Multimedia – multimedia is composed of flash movies, video clips, audio clips and background music. Always use streaming media because it reduces download time.
